دکتر محسن مردی در سال 1381 پس از دریافت مدرک دکتری از دانشگاه تهران همکاری خود را با پژوهشکده بیوتکنولوژی کشاورزی آغاز کرد. زمینه های تحقیقاتی ایشان انگشت نگاری DNA ، مکان یابی/شناسایی/جداسازی ژن های دخیل در تحمل به تنش های زیستی و غیر زیستی، مطالعه مولکولی تلفیقی برای ایجاد تحمل به تنش های زیستی و غیر زیستی ،طراحی، تدوین، سازماندهی و اجرای برنامه های جامع ملی و دانش بنیان برای مهار و کنترل معضلات بخش کشاورزی می باشد.
